Anthropology as a Subject in the Bachelor of Arts (General) Degree

Programme Syllabus

The Department of Archaeology at the University of Kelaniya, a leading centre within the Faculty of Social Sciences, offers a three-year Bachelor of Arts (General) Degree in Anthropology. The programme has been designed to provide students with a broad foundation in the study of human societies, cultures, communities, and cultural diversity, while introducing them to key concepts, perspectives, and approaches in anthropology. The curriculum enables students to develop a general understanding of human cultural and social life, past and present, and to appreciate the diversity of human experiences within local and global contexts. By providing a balanced academic foundation in anthropology and related fields, the programme supports the development of critical thinking, cultural awareness, and basic research skills, preparing graduates for further study and employment across the social sciences, cultural heritage, community development, education, and other relevant sectors.
