Senior Professor Prishanta Gunawardhana is the Cadre Chair of Archaeology at the University of Kelaniya and a leading authority on South Asian low-density urbanism. Formerly the Director General of the Central Cultural Fund, he pioneered post-disaster archaeology and global research collaborations in Lumbini and Jaffna. His work with Durham University and the Shanghai Museum has redefined the understanding of ancient city planning. Awarded the 2024 State Literary Award and multiple Vice-Chancellor’s Awards for research excellence, he is a distinguished scholar whose leadership bridges academic discovery with national heritage management.
