The Department of Archaeology and Tourism is proud to recognise the participation of first-year undergraduate B.G. Indumini Kaveesha Bandara and A. Lakshani Disanayaka in the Travel and Tourism Workshop held on September 25th, 2025. This specialised program was organised in conjunction with the 10th International Tourism Research Conference (ITRC) 2025, offering students a unique opportunity to engage with industry experts and contemporary research, and to initiate their own research endeavours.
Currently pursuing a BA in General Degree (First Year), Indumini and Lakshani utilised this platform to explore the vital intersection of language and industry growth. Their studies focused on the strategic application of Hindi to enhance inbound tourism from the Indian market to Sri Lanka. Beyond the traditional academic setting, they gained intensive insights into the cultural nuances, culinary preferences, and travel behaviours of Indian tourists. This experience served as a valuable initiative to sharpen their professional skills in cultural resource management and foster personal development. By bridging the gap between linguistic proficiency and tourism strategy, Indumini and Lakshani have laid a strong foundation for their future career, demonstrating how multidisciplinary learning can effectively address real-world challenges in the tourism sector.
